There is an increasing air pollution problem in Athens. Although the local
authorities make efforts to reduce the pollutants and the technological
advances enable them to better control the emission of pollutants, although
each single pollution source (e.g car, factory etc.) actually emits less
pollutant gases still the air pollution increases. The reason is obvious
The number of single sources has increased and they function for even longer
periods of time. (especially cars)
The solution seems to be straight forward. We must simply use our technological
advances in accordance with nature, in the case of Athens this means to be mo-
re aware of the way and frequency we use cars and other devices that pollute
and actually disturb or even destroy the dynamic balance of nature.
The authorities generally avoid to talk about the importance and the degree
of pollution because they don't want to panic people.
Since my intention is also not to panic people but to clearly inform and show
the real dimensions of the problem , this page is going to contain the actual
as well as previous values of air pollution in Athens,so that a common know-
ledge of the dimensions of the problem will be crystallized.
